Overview
FiveThirtyEight App (“the App”) provides national and local news headlines. We designed the App to respect your privacy and to collect as little data as possible.
Information We Collect
The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information such as your name, email address, contacts, photos, messages, or browsing history.
Location (Optional)
The App may request approximate (coarse) location permission to detect your city and show local headlines. This location data is:
- Processed only on your device
- Not stored by the App
- Not transmitted to any server
- Not shared with third parties
If you deny permission, the App simply shows national news instead. The App does not use background location or continuous tracking.
Advertising
The App uses Google AdMob to display ads. AdMob may collect the device’s Advertising ID (AD_ID) for ad personalization or frequency capping. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings.
Third‑Party Services
The App may interact with the following services:
- Google Play Services (for crash reporting and stability)
- Google AdMob (for advertising)
- Google News RSS (for loading news content)
These services may have their own privacy policies. The App does not send personal data to them.
Log Data
In case of an error, Google Play may collect diagnostic information such as device type, OS version, and crash logs. This information is used only to improve app stability. The App itself does not collect or store this data.
Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data.
Security
All data transmitted over the network (such as news feeds) is encrypted. The App does not store any personal information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page.
